356 Outlaw (Just Arrived)

0.00

We recently acquired a beautifully restored 1957 Porsche 356 A Coupe Outlaw in its original color, Aqua Marine Blue and it is now on consignment at our shop. There’s certainly no right or wrong way to do an Outlaw, which is a huge contributor to what makes these cars so interesting. Initially pioneered by the Emory’s in the 80’s, what was once seen as unconventional has become an extremely coveted mark in the Porsche community. Everyone’s approach to an Outlaw build is different, often varied by taste, however, the quality of craftsmanship is what makes a normal build an extraordinary one. The attention to detail and quality for this build is just incredible. It’s refreshing to see a build so clearly planned from the beginning, no guess work, just quality craftsmanship with quality materials.

What makes this Outlaw an Outlaw? For starters, the car is fitted with a 2240 cc Type 1 engine with 92 mm Bore x 84 mm stroke with ported big heads, Gene intake manifolds, 43 mm Solex Carbs and Bosch CDI ignition. To keep the engine cool a full flow oil system with front mounted oil coolers was added. The engine has been run on a dyno resulting in 108 hp. A 901 transmission with custom gear ratios was fitted to a ZF differential. Rear trailing arms from a 67 911S were fitted along with custom Koni rear shocks and a 26 mm torsion bar. The front suspension is fitted with de-camber spindles, a 19mm sway bar, gusseted trailing arms and custom Koni front shocks.

Metal work and fabrication was done by Andy Elsener, a well known Porsche 356 and 911 metal fabricator/restorer in Huntington Beach. From the extensive receipts and restoration documentation, the owner spent in excess of 17k on metal work including a custom louvered deck lid, darted rear fenders and custom exhaust. Also, In order to accommodate the larger 901 transmission, the tunnel was professionally modified. In 2006, the owner had the car resprayed his favorite shade of blue, Aqua Marine. Unknown to him at the time and later proven with the vehicles COA, Aqua Marine blue was the cars original color, it was meant to be! The car was painted by Jim East Painting in Orange and is still showing well. A clear bra was installed shortly after to preserve the front facia from rock chips etc. Overall the paint looks great, the Aqua Marine blue shines great in daylight with only a few rock chips, but after all, this car was meant to be driven! A custom roll bar with retractable over the shoulder 3-point seat belts was installed along with Lexan windows and GT-style bumpers. To complete the look, period correct Marchal 670-680 fog lights were mounted with clear glass.

The owner Ron built the car to be enjoyed and put nearly 40k miles on the odometer. The interior is a combination of form and function. In order to enjoy all those miles, some tasteful modifications were added including; power windows, power steering, CD and mp3 player, satellite radio, modified 911 sport seats and Coco mats as well as a quad gauge cluster with 8000 rpm tachometer. The XM-FM radio and CD controls are incorporated into the drivers seat as well as a hidden remote that flips out from under the dash.

Wheels often set the tone for the rest of a car and this case is no different. A beautiful set of 7” Boyd Coddington Alloy wheels perfectly compliment the lines and stance of this 356 A Coupe.

Unique touches like these really culminate into something special, this car has been featured in the French magazine Speedster. It has won multiple awards over the years including the People’s Choice Award at the Porsche Club of America Grand Prix region as well as 1st place “Outlaw” at the 356 Club Southern California in 2015.

Included with the sale of this car are extensive receipts documenting each step of the restoration including; parts, paint, body work etc. It took the owner 2-3 years to complete the restoration with no expense spared. He enjoyed the car immensely, taking it on countless trips to shows, events and vacations. Tool kit and spare tire are all included in the purchase.
